Forcing yourself to fall asleep will only make you more anxious! One of the best things you can do is to imagine something peaceful and calming until you sleep. Picture the perfect life in your mind; think about relaxing moments in your life; or invent an exciting story or adventure.

Stop Checking the Time

The worst thing you can do if you’re having trouble falling asleep is constantly check the time to know how much you haven’t slept. The only thing this does for you is stress you out. Time monitoring is associated with waking arousal and anxiety, so if you want to have quality sleep, just put your clock away!

Avoid Sleeping in a Hot Environment

Not only will avoiding hot surroundings help you fall asleep, but it will also improve your sleep quality. It’s a win-win! Among the things you should avoid are hot rooms, heavy blankets, and pajamas that are too warm. Cooler temperature actually helps your body’s heat to drop faster, which leads to faster sleep.

Remember, just as too hot isn’t good, too cold isn’t good either! But cold temperature doesn’t disrupt your sleep quality as much as hot temperature does, so you’re better off cold than hot!

Earplugs and Sleep Mask

While it sounds like a no-brainer if you can’t sleep, many people still skip these two useful tools. Earplugs will ease your mind by blocking the noise around you, while sleep masks will do you the biggest favor ever if some of there are lights around you.

If Nothing Works, Get Up and Do Something

Don’t force your body to sleep if it just can’t. If you fail to fall asleep after 30 minutes of trying, you should probably get up and keep yourself busy with anything that might relax your body until you start feeling sleepy. This includes reading, listening to calming music, or taking a warm bath.
